Roatan is the largest of the Bay Islands of Honduras, drawing the largest number of tourists via international direct flights and Western Caribbean cruises. With the convenience of a direct international flight of less than 3 hours to multiple U.S. cities, more and more tourists are heading to Roatan for a tropical escape. In this article, we’ll cover information all about West Bay Roatan, one of the most popular neighborhoods on the island.
West Bay Roatan
West Bay Beach is regularly recognized as one of the best beaches in the world – and in the 2016 TripAdvisor Travellers Choice Awards, it was named the best beach in all of Central America. This stretch of powdery white sand is lined with palm trees, all facing out to some of the most beautiful coral reef in the whole world. From the beach, you can swim to the reef in seconds. You will be hard-pressed to find a better location from which to snorkel and witness such amazing coral topography and marine life.
West Bay Roatan is incredibly popular among tourists. Along the beach are a multitude of small resorts and hotels, with beach bars and dive shops filling the gaps. Past those and off the main road leading into West Bay, you’ll find many vacation rental options in planned developments, both condominium and family homes. If you are visiting West Bay Roatan, you’ll find everything you need right in the neighborhood.
You can reach West Bay from all transportation hubs (international airport, ferry, and both cruise ship docks) via taxi or rental car. If you are staying right on West Bay Beach, you will not need a rental car as you can walk along the beach to everything and your resort can arrange transport for activities.
If you are staying in a development off the beach, you might want a rental car – check with your vacation rental property manager. To head to West End, you can take a water taxi from the Infinity Bay Dock or Fosters Dock off West Bay Beach, which will bring you to the West End Water Taxi Association Dock in central West End.
