It has never been easier to travel to the Bay Islands! Now is the time to book your next vacation; more and more direct flights to Roatan continue to be added, and more services between the islands are efficiently bringing guests to Utila and Guanaja.
Travel to Roatan
The Juan Manuel Galvez International Airport is based outside of Coxen Hole, the capital of the Bay Islands on the island of Roatan. International flights arrive directly from multiple U.S. and Canadian cities, so choose the best route for you! American Airlines fly from Dallas and Miami; United Airlines fly from Houston; Delta Airlines fly from Atlanta; Transat and Sunwing Airlines both fly season direct flights from Montreal and Toronto.
On top of those major North American airlines, there are other international routes directly into Roatan as well. Tropic Air flies direct from Belize City; Avianca Airlines offers regular service via their hub in San Salvador, which is convenient for many travelers coming from western North America, or from South America.
You can also enjoy the daily ferry service available between the port city of La Ceiba on the mainland and Roatan, arriving into the Galaxy Wave terminal in Brick Bay (about a 25-minute drive from West End). Take a look at the Roatan ferry website for fares and departures information.
Travel to Guanaja
Arriving on Guanaja takes a bit more time and effort as there is no international airport on the island. Your best options for traveling to Guanaja are to start off by either flying into Roatan's international airport or into one of the main international airports on the mainland in either Tegucigalpa (the capital) or San Pedro Sula. Both of those mainland airports will offer connecting flights to La Ceiba, from where you can fly to Guanaja. Check out Lanhsa Airlines for those domestic connections. Alternatively, there is a weekly Saturday flight from Roatan to Guanaja, also on Lanhsa Airlines.
If you'd like to take a more adventurous route, you can fly into Roatan and then charter a boat to Guanaja. The journey is not for the faint of heart, but it is an alternative to arriving on other days of the week.
Travel to Utila
Utila has more frequent regular connections to both Roatan and to La Ceiba, with the ferry terminal in La Ceiba offering service to Utila twice daily. From Roatan, there are a few options for regular service, all departing from Half Moon Bay in West End for Utila. The services from Roatan will only run with enough passengers, however.
The ferry service from La Ceiba is daily, so it is much more reliable if you are restricted on time. Take a look at the Utila Princess website for fares and departures.
