Things to Do in the Bay Islands

There are so many amazing and thrilling things to do in the Bay Islands, and we're guessing you don't even realize it! Of course, everyone knows that scuba diving has always been the primary draw for tourists to the Bay Islands. You can't miss heading to Utila, where there are whale shark sightings all year-round!

But if you're not a diver, don't worry, the Bay Islands offer more activities than ever before so you can enjoy our beautiful slice of paradise.

Water activities are still - of course - the primary focus of island life and island vacations. Whether you're going underwater or staying above, there are so many fun ways to explore our clear, warm Caribbean Sea.

If you're not into scuba diving, remember that you can stay on top of the water for some mesmerizing snorkeling. The Bay Islands are spoiled with the second-largest barrier reef system terminating around our home. We enjoy snorkeling from shore - we don't have to take long boat rides to reach extensive and colorful coral! Take advantage of rental snorkel gear available at most hotels or dive shops, or bring your own from home!

For more water-related activities, think about paddling around. Whether you choose a kayak, a traditional canoe, or a paddleboard, you'll have ample opportunity to explore the coastlines of our beautiful Bay Islands. For faster-paced adventure, consider trying flyboarding, parasailing, or jet-skiing off of popular West Bay Beach in Roatan. At the opposite eastern end of Roatan, try a Kitesurfing lesson or enjoy a tour through the historic and intriguing mangrove tunnels.

If you'd prefer to stay completely dry, there are lots of land-based things to do in the Bay Islands, too. Check out the many zipline canopy tours in Roatan, taking advantage of the high central ridge leading down to the beaches. Or hit the trails for a hike through the jungle in Guanaja, admiring local flora and searching for wildlife scurrying through the bush. Enjoy a sunset cruise with live music, or simply enjoy a relaxing day on the beach with a tropical cocktail in hand.

One of the best new things to do in the Bay Islands is golfing at the world-famous Black Pearl course at Pristine Bay in Roatan. Designed by Pete Dye, this course integrates beautiful greens overlooking endless hues of blues. You won't find a more picturesque course anywhere else!

Not a golfer? No problem! How about you head out to shop 'til you drop? Check out some fantastic locally produced artwork, from stunning photography to creative home decor made of recycled materials. There are local shops and local artisans on all of our islands - you can't miss the opportunity to bring home a piece of the Bay Islands with you!

And for all of these wonderful activities and attractions in the Bay Islands, don't forget you can also enjoy simply relaxing on a lounge chair or in a hammock all day, every day. After all, you're on Island Time and the best way to take advantage of that is to just be.

We know you'll enjoy your vacation to the Bay Islands, whether you're an adventure seeker or you're seeking a cocktail on the beach. We have something for everyone. We are excited to welcome you to our beautiful islands...welcome to our home!
